WellRead's April Kids Selection: The Colours of Home by Sally Soweol Han
Being somewhere new is exciting – there are new people, new foods to try, new sights to see. But all these exciting things can also feel a bit scary at first when you haven’t had time to get used to them!
In this month’s book The Colours of Home by Sally Soweol Han, we’re exploring how you can make a new place feel like home, just by looking for the things that you recognise. We follow one little girl who matches the colours of her new home with the home she left behind – she discovers that our beautiful world is full of familiar colours welcoming us, wherever we may be.
We hope you enjoy seeing the world in a different way.
Happy reading

Things to think about and do:
-
Look out the window of your home – what colours can you see? Try looking outside on a sunny day and a rainy day and see if there are any new colours that appear
-
Grab a piece of paper and some colours – crayons, pencils or paint! – and try to capture some of the colours you can see.
-
Do any of the places in the book share the same colours with the view out your window?
-
Do you have any friends who have moved from somewhere far away? Ask them about their old home and the differences and similarities between here and there.
