Book Club Questions for Come and Get It by Kiley Reid | WellRead's February 2024 Selection

WellRead's February 2024 selection was Come and Get It by Kiley Reid. Dropping you into the heart of the University of Arkansas for what seems like a classic college campus drama, Come and Get It captures student life in all of its vapid and anxiety-inducing glory.

Use these discussion questions to engage with the book further, whether in a book club with friends, or just on your own as you digest the story.

Reading questions for Come and Get It by Kiley Reid:

  • How did the setting – a college campus – heighten certain interactions and shape the story?

  • The story gives three perspectives – Millie's, Agatha's and Kennedy's – why do you think the author chose those three characters to tell the story and how did it impact the way you read the book? Was there another perspective you would have liked to have read?

  • Which character fid you sympathise with the most – did any of their actions surprise you?

  • Do you think there was a 'villain' in the story? If so, who?

  • After an argument about money, where Rob offered up a weak solution, she says to Agatha, "You can't be mad about the money and mad at my solution". In what ways did you find Agatha's own perspective on money contradictory?

  • Millie is not much older than the girls she looks after as a RA – why do you think Agatha is drawn into a relationship with her while simultaneously looking down upon the other students? Do you think her ultimate treatment of Millie reveals anything about this relationship?

  • How did you see your own experiences with money, class and privilege reflected in the story?
