WellRead's September Kids Selection: At the Window by Hope Lim

In At the Window' , you’ll meet two people who love to look around them and see the world.

As we write this letter to you, we are looking out our own window. We can see big trees swaying in the wind, lots of pot plants ready to be put into fresh, bigger pots, and pegs doing loop-de-loops on the empty clothesline. We live on a busy street, so we can hear friendly voices but we can’t see the people from where we’re sitting!

In this month’s book, At the Window, we’re celebrating all the wonderful sights we can see from our windows, and the way these views can inspire creativity.

Through this story, you’ll meet two people who love to look around them and see the world. Even though they’re different ages and spend their time doing different activities, they’re brought together by an open window and open hearts.

We hope you enjoy looking at things from their point of view, and we hope that it encourages you to spend time being inspired in front of a window with the curtains flung open.

Happy reading,

The WellRead Team x

Extra things to think about and do:

  • What can you see from your window?

  • Why do you think the neighbour likes to write at the open window?

  • At the end, with the window wide open, can you see anything the main character might have in common with the neighbour who has moved house? Do they have similar things in their rooms as they write? What are they?

We would love to see the view from your window! Draw or paint a picture of what you can see from any window in your house. Include your first name and age, and we just might find a way to share it with the wider WellRead community. Email it to us at hello@wellread.com.au or DM us on Instagram @__wellread.
