Pippies are little creatures that live in the ocean, buried in the sand. They’ve got a shell that keeps them safe and lets them grow. To find them, you have to know where to look, and how to encourage them out from beneath the sand.

That’s exactly what Wilaaran’s family knows how to do! Follow along as Wilaaran learns from his family and enjoys the tradition.

Extra things to think about and do:

  • Wilaaran’s family has a tradition of going to look for pippies, and then eating them afterwards! Does your family have any traditions?

  • The whole family helps find and collect the pippies. Even Wilaaran, who is scared of the waves, has a role to play. How do you help out in your family?

  • Do you like going to the beach? Have you ever found any creatures or shells in the sand?

  • Wilaaran wrote this story for you to enjoy when he was only five years old! You’re never too young to write a story. Have a go at writing or drawing a story for your family to enjoy. It could be something from your imagination, or it could be a true story. Ask a grown up if you need some help!
